Moon Over the Ocean 3

This one I painted for my nephew Dennis since he was the one who sent me the photos. He is visiting here from Florida and his birthday was yesterday. I hurried up and started this last evening and finished it this afternoon. It's slightly different than the smaller ones. I used the watercolor canvas again. It's supposed to be for all mediums, but I'm having a little trouble with blending with acrylics yet even after I coated it with a layer of gesso. I need to use it again and make notes. I think I like the water and waves better on this one, but the clouds better on the smaller ones.

  1. the variety of warm and cools in the blues really give movement and sparkle to the water- nice!

  2. Thanks Mary. I wasn't sure about the pink in the waves, but I think it works because there is some pink in the sky.

  3. I love the water and the waves, and the sky doesn't distract from the beautiful sparkle on the water. I love it just the way it is. Good one!! Lucky nephew!

  4. Thanks Chris. Your comment made me feel better. My husband wasn't impressed until I showed him the original photo. Then I got a little nod. He wasn't around when I painted it so I didn't get his input during the process. He is usually very helpful.

  5. Your seascapes are just delightful, Melanie! Makes me think of summer days and cooling off at the beach. Your colors are excellent representations of most beaches on a sunny day... that beautiful ultramarine color! I'll bet Dennis was thrilled to have a painting from a photo he'd sent you. Wonderful movement in all of your seascapes.

  6. Glad to hear from you Carol and thank you for your kind comments. I guess I was painting seascapes to remind myself of warm weather. It's still cool here yet, but it is supposed to finally warm up this weekend. I was also trying to develop some kind of system to paint waves, but am coming to the conclusion that there is an infinite variety in waves and you just have to paint what you see.

  8. Thank you Shelley. I'm determined to paint seascapes until I can do it without struggling too much.
